STRATA
Composed as a response to Norbert Gruber's painting »Nummer 7«, this piece explores the interplay between texture, rhythm, and elemental processes. The artwork's muted grays, sharp reds, and organic patterns evoke the timeless transformation of stone, earth, and sky.
To mirror this visual narrative, recordings of stones being struck, scraped, and rolled became the foundation of the piece. These sounds serve as the material for a generative Max/MSP patch, through which evolving patterns of pulses are created. Just as the painting's layered tones create depth on the canvas, multiple sound buffers in the patch overlap and evolve, drawing on the layered interplay of tone and texture seen in »Nummer 7«. Processed with shifting parameters, these overlapping layers form an intricately layered and ever-changing auditory landscape.
